Remember the cute, furry little monster who taught you the difference between near and far? Experience near and far wherever you are with this special Grover-approved virtual race!
Your old pal Grover challenges you to determine your own near and far distances, tackle each one, and report your chosen distances/times to earn your medal. Run, walk, hike, swim, roll, cycle, paddle, or crawl your way to the finish line and be rewarded with a limited-edition double-sided spinner medal.
Your chosen near and far distances will probably be different from other racers – and that’s great! This event is an opportunity to celebrate our unique journeys.
We've partnered with Sesame Workshop, the non-profit behind Sesame Street, to bring you this officially licensed challenge that can be done on your own time and in any location. Click to learn more about Sesame Workshop.
How do I take on the challenge?
Tackle two separate distances – near and far! You determine what these mean to you, then report your chosen distances and times to us to earn your medal. It doesn’t matter how you do it: run, walk, hike, swim, roll, cycle, paddle, or crawl.
Every registration includes:

This race has changed my life. When I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia over five years ago, I thought my race days were over. This challenge has motivated me to get up each morning and do what I can - and over time I've been able to do more and more. I'm now running 3 miles on most days and the possibility of doing an in-person race is becoming a reality.

The Super Grover 10k gave me the confidence and training I needed to keep going and complete my first ever half marathon in the fall! Plus the shirt was super cute, I get comments about it all the time!

Nope. You can complete your race distances in your movement method of choice. Running is great, but so is walking, biking, dancing, swimming, rollerblading, rucking...
We prefer that you go using your own power, but please adapt however works best for your circumstances.
We aim to ship swag items together where possible, but generally all swag ships separately. Shirts and medals ship with a tracking email from email@example.com. Bibs are sent in a standard white envelope with a first class stamp.

The distances you choose to demonstrate near and far are entirely up to you. We challenge you to stretch outside your comfort zone for that far distance.
You have until Friday, December 31, 2021 to complete your near and far distances. This is also the final reporting deadline. Be sure to report those near and far distances and times to earn your medal!

We find some of our participants like to do multiple Virtual Running Club events at once. If you want to double-dip – that is, apply your miles to multiple events – you have our full permission to do so. Choose whatever works best for you!
There’s a special Facebook group for Sesame Street Races & Challenges. We believe it’s one of the most positive corners of the internet, where members share their achievements and cheer each other on. Joining the group is entirely voluntary.
