year in miles challenge
How do you measure a year? We challenge you to measure it in miles. Can you walk or run 2,022 or 202.2 miles this year? Both distance goals come with unique adventure-themed pins that you'll earn along the way as you reach each milestone.

"I started doing challenges to become the best version of myself. I discovered fitness late in life and never considered myself athletic. Now that I’ve started running and doing challenges, I feel like an athlete and it has changed my outlook on myself."

Paper and pencil, GPS watch, or however else you choose! If you select the Report for Rewards option, you’ll need to report your miles through our new mobile app. Starting January 1, 2022, you can log into the app with the email address you used with registration.
Click here to download the app on iOS or Android.
Check out our video tutorial or the following instructions to navigate the app:
- Enter the email associated with your registration.
- Click the event you would like to add miles for. Only challenges that you are registered for with reporting will be shown in the app.
- To add miles, scroll down to the bottom and select “Add Activity”.
- Enter your miles and click “Save”.
- When you reach a milestone, your freshly earned pin will pop up on your screen. Congrats! Click “Claim” and follow the prompts to receive your reward.
This challenge takes place over the course of the 2022 calendar year. The goal is to finish by December 31, however reporting in the VRC app will remain available through June 30, 2023.
Not sure if you’ll get to the finish line? We recommend customizing your journey with the Reward Yourself option, where you receive all the rewards up front and can earn them on your own timeline.

We find some of our participants like to do multiple Virtual Running Club events at once. If you want to double-dip – that is, apply your miles to multiple events – you have our full permission to do so. Choose whatever works best for you!
Choose between completing 202.2 miles or 2022 miles to run the year (or walk it, bike it, hike it – whatever your movement method of choice happens to be!).
There’s a special Facebook group for VRC Distance Challenges, where members share their achievements and cheer each other on. Joining the group is entirely voluntary.
Work with our friends at Wander Project and when you raise the minimum threshold for a non-profit (usually $500), Virtual Running Club will sponsor your participation in this event at no cost to you!
