Apollo 9
50th Anniversary Virtual Race
1K / 5K / 10K
When? March 3–13, 2019
Where? Wherever you want!
Just like Apollo 9 was designated as a training event for the Apollo 11 Moon Landing, we have created this event as a training race to help you stay on track with your goals and get you ready for the main event in the Moon Landing Race Series later in 2019 (Moon Landing Race in July).
Apollo 9 was a monumental mission that helped prepare for the eventual moon landing later in 1969. Spending several days in low Earth orbit, astronauts performed critical tests with the command and service module and the lunar module. The 3-person crew spent 10 days in orbit testing vital aspects of landing on the surface of the Moon, including the LM engines, backpack life support, navigation and docking systems.
All tests were deemed successful. Once you complete the Apollo 9 Virtual Race, you too can be successful! 😀

Other Important Details
Official race week is March 3–13th. Registration will be open through that week as supplies last. We anticipate that most people will race that week - BUT - the advantage of having a virtual race is you can do it when and where works best for you. So it’s up to you. Because we strive to honor the tradition of in-person races, you’ll receive messages as if that is race day for you, but just know that we’re okay with it if you need to do something different.
To maintain the spirit of traditional events, we believe a finisher award should be earned by finishing the race. We verify that you finished by requiring that you report your time to your account. If you do not report, you will not receive a finisher award.
